Sonic Shadow Sculptures

A visual dialogue between current limitations and infinite ambition.
Every humble beginning holds a reason to be, defined by the shadow we dare to cast.

Vessel & Void #01:
Flax & Lace

for Kant In Vlaanderen, shown at Heritage Day 2026, Diest (BE)
26/04 – 02/05/2026

Dried flax endures,
but remains so fragile.

After harvesting, washing, scutching and combing,
it can finally be woven into lace.

The flax is lost,
yet in that transformation,
it relives its brief moment of joy:
when its blue flower bloomed.

But now, for eternity.

Vessel & Void - Preview

We live in a world that judges by surface alone.

We see things as they are, rarely for what they wish to be.

We invite you to witness the dialogue between Vessel & Void,
to look past the physical form and attend to the darkness it casts.

We asked different humble objects what they dream of…
and their answers unfold upon the plinths before you.

In this space,
the shadow is not a replica of the form,
but a revelation of the spirit;
showing these items not as they are,
but as the magnificent dreams they long to become.

How to experience an object’s dream?

A physical object rests on a plinth.
Yet its shadow tells a different story; one that doesn’t quite match.

Intrigued, the visitor picks up a pair of headphones.

What follows is an intimate audio interview: the object speaks in first person, recounting its past, its longing, its transformation. The voice is quiet, personal, unhurried. It really sounds like the object.

Shadow and sound together construct an inner life for something we would otherwise overlook.

The visitor leaves having listened… truly listened…
to something that was never supposed to speak.
